SEALANTS
A sealant is a thin, plastic coating applied to the chewing
surface of molars, premolars and any teeth with deep grooves.
Very often dental decay begins in these deep grooves. Teeth with
deep grooves are hard to clean and are very susceptible to
decay. A sealant protects the tooth by sealing deep grooves,
creating a smooth, easy to clean surface. Sealants can protect
teeth from decay for many years, but need to be checked for
wear and chipping at regular dental visits.
FILLING
A filling is used to repair a tooth that is affected by decay, fractures (cracks) or worn teeth. The decayed or affected portion of the tooth will be removed and then filled
with a filling. There are many types of filling materials available, each with their own advantages and disadvantages. You and your dentist can discuss the best options for
restoring your teeth. Amalgam fillings, along with composite (tooth colored) fillings, are the most widely used today. Dental restorations are not permanent and may someday
need replacement. They are very durable, and will last many years, giving you a long lasting smile.
MOUTH GUARDS
Custom-fitted mouth protectors are individually designed and made in a dental office or a professional laboratory. First, your dentist will make an impression of your teeth and a mouth guard is then moulded over the model using a special material. It provides the most comfort and protection. Mouth guards will cover your upper teeth. An effective mouth guard should be comfortable, resist tears, be durable and easy to clean, and should not restrict your breathing or speech.
Most people probably grind and clench their teeth from time to time. Occasional teeth grinding, medically called bruxism, does not usually cause harm, but when teeth grinding occurs on a regular basis the teeth can be damaged and other oral health complications can arise. So a night guard would be recommended. Your dentist can fit you with a night guard to protect your teeth from grinding during sleep. Similar to a sports guard.
DENTAL EXAM & CLEANING
Everyone over the age of three should visit the dentist for an exam and cleaning appointment twice per year. An exam will consist of X-rays, Intra-oral examination , extra-
oral examination and Pocket depth and much more. Our gentle friendly hygienists are trained to detect tartar, and treat gum disease. Our goal is to help you maintain optimal
oral health so that you never have to worry about gum disease. However, if you should develop periodontal problems, we're here to help you the best we can.
PERIODONTAL
Periodontal or gum disease is an infection of the tissues that surround and support your teeth. It is a leading cause of tooth loss in adults. Good oral hygiene and regular
dental examinations are essential in prevention and early detection of gum disease – which sometimes developing without any warning signs. The inflammation and infection
of gums, ligaments, bone, and other tissues surrounding the teeth. Gingivitis (gums disease) and periodontists (gums and bone disease) are the two main forms of periodontal
disease also called gum disease. Scaling and root planning is a careful cleaning of the root surfaces to remove plaque and calculus [tartar] from deep periodontal pockets and
to smooth the roots surface to remove bacterial toxins.
