Root canal treatment, or endodontic treatment, involves removing the nerve from the tooth that is inside one or more canals. The tooth will then be sealed to prevent bacteria from re-infiltrating the tooth. This treatment allows us to save teeth that would otherwise have to be extracted. Root canal treatment is necessary if the tooth becomes infected, either from an accident, decay or a fracture. The infection can sometimes create pressure and pain. We reassure you: our team will do everything possible to provide you with sufficient anesthesia for pain-free treatment. Sometimes it is necessary to do a root canal in order to gain access to the inside of the tooth to fix a crown or a bridge when the tooth is severely broken. It is important to know that a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment is weakened and, in most cases, requires a crown in order to be protected.
